A phone stand is a two-dollar problem that people solve badly about four times before getting it right. The variables are angle, height, cable clearance and footprint, and different rooms want different answers.

Desk: shallow angle, low height

At a desk your phone is glanceable rather than watchable. A shallow angle around 60° from horizontal keeps the screen readable without blocking the monitor behind it. Height should be low – a tall stand puts the phone in your sightline and becomes irritating within a day.

Bedside: steeper, and check the cable

Beside a bed you are looking from a lower position, so a steeper angle nearer 70° works better. The thing people forget is cable clearance: a stand with no channel underneath means the charging cable bends hard against the desk and eventually fails at the connector. Check for a cut-out before you buy.

Kitchen: stable beats elegant

A phone propped on a counter with a recipe on it gets knocked. Wide base, low centre of gravity, and ideally something that will not slide when you bump it with a mixing bowl. This is the one place where a heavier, wider design wins outright.

Travel: it has to fold or it stays home

A travel stand that does not collapse flat will be left behind after one trip. Folding designs print as a single piece with living hinges and take up less room than a passport.

Case thickness is the usual mistake

Most stands are sized for a bare phone. A thick protective case will not sit in a narrow slot, and you will end up removing the case every time – which means you will stop using the stand. Check the slot width against your phone with the case on, and if you are between sizes, ask us. We can widen a slot; it is a design-time change with no setup cost.

Landscape matters if you watch anything

If the phone is ever going to play video, the stand needs to hold it horizontally too. Designs that only support portrait are fine for a bedside clock and useless for a kitchen recipe video.
