Buying sculptures from Compl3x
Sculptural and decorative pieces designed and printed in Canada. This is the category where printing genuinely outruns other processes: complex organic geometry, deep relief and internal structure cost nothing extra to produce, where a mould would make them expensive or impossible.
Check the dimensions, not the photograph
Photographs flatten scale badly, and printed objects rarely have a familiar reference in frame. A piece that reads as floor-standing on a screen is frequently a tabletop object. The measurement on the listing is a far better guide than the image.
Light is half of a sculptural piece
Relief and texture are mostly shadow. Flat overhead lighting kills them; side light from a lamp or a window brings out the depth the design was built around. If a piece looks flatter than you expected, move the light before you judge the object.
Where to put it, and where not to
Indoors and out of direct sun, these last for years with no meaningful wear mechanism. Prolonged UV fades colour over months and a closed car in summer will deform a piece outright. Those are the only two things that genuinely shorten their life.
Questions about sculptures
- How detailed are they in person?
- Fine detail reproduces well, and the layer structure gives the surface a subtle texture visible up close. Every photograph is of the real object rather than a render.
- Can I get one in a different size?
- Often. Scaling changes print time and therefore price, so ask and we will quote the size you want.
- Do they fade?
- Only in sustained direct sunlight, over months. Indoors and away from a south-facing window, colour holds.
