Buying vases from Compl3x
Vases, planters and vessels printed to order in our own studio in Canada. Because these are made after you order rather than pulled from a shelf, you are not choosing from whatever a warehouse has left - and because they are printed rather than moulded, the ribbed, faceted and organic shapes here would be expensive or impossible to produce any other way.
Why printed beats terracotta indoors
Unglazed terracotta wicks moisture. It sweats onto windowsills, marks furniture and develops a chalky white bloom within a season - especially in a damp coastal climate. Printed vessels do none of that, and designs with a concealed drip tray remove the saucer problem entirely, which matters when the sill is 12cm deep and rented.
Choosing a size that will not kill the plant
Buy for the root ball you have, not the plant you hope for. Over-potting is the most common way a well-meant planter kills a houseplant: too much wet soil around a small root system holds water against the roots. Every listing gives real internal dimensions, and if you are between sizes, tell us the plant and we will give you an opinion.
Water, honestly
Vases printed in a single continuous wall hold water well. Conventional prints can seep slowly over a day or two. If a piece is going to hold water directly rather than a nursery pot or a liner, ask before ordering and we will tell you which this design is.
Questions about vases
- Are these vases waterproof?
- It depends on how the piece is printed. Single-wall spiral prints hold water; conventional prints can seep over a day or two. A glass liner removes the question entirely, and we will tell you which any given design is.
- Can they go outside?
- Most are designed for indoor life. On a covered balcony they are fine; in year-round direct sun they need a UV-stable material, which we can quote.
- Will they mark my windowsill?
- No. These materials do not wick moisture the way unglazed ceramic does, which is exactly why they suit rentals and narrow sills.
