This category needs a plain safety section, because printed plastic and open flame are not automatically compatible and most listings say nothing about it.

The number that matters

Standard printing materials soften around 55-60°C. A candle flame is hundreds of degrees, and the base of a burning tealight cup gets hot enough to deform plastic it is sitting directly against. So the rule is simple: printed plastic must never be in direct contact with a burning wick or a hot metal cup.

Which means what, in practice

LED tealights: completely fine. They produce no meaningful heat, which is why so many printed holders are designed around them. The flicker is convincing now, and it lets designers use thin translucent walls that glow – something you simply cannot do safely with a flame. Most of our tealight designs are built for LED.

Real tealights: only with a barrier. A metal or glass insert between the flame and the plastic, with an air gap. If a design does not have one, do not improvise.

Taper candles: only in a metal cup. A printed candlestick must hold a metal insert that takes the candle. As the candle burns down, the flame approaches the holder – and that is where things go wrong. Never let a taper burn to within a few centimetres of a printed surface.

Incense is a different risk

An incense tip is hot but small, and the real hazard is falling ash rather than the ember. A printed incense holder needs a channel or tray that catches ash along the whole length of the stick, and the burning tip should sit over a non-plastic section or well clear of any surface. Watch the first burn to see where the ash actually lands – it is rarely where you expect.

Never leave it unattended

That applies to any flame in any holder, but with plastic in the vicinity it matters more. Do not burn on a shelf directly beneath something flammable, and keep flames away from curtains and away from printed pieces that are not designed for them.

Getting the look without the risk

Honestly, LED is where this category is going and the results are better. Thin translucent walls, pierced geometry and internal patterns all throw light beautifully and none of them are possible with a live flame. If you want the glow and the shapes, LED gets you there and removes the question entirely.
