Choosing a Colour You Will Still Like in Two Years

Colour is the decision people rush and then regret. It is also the one that costs nothing to get right, because the colour you see in the photographs is the colour that arrives, and anything else is a custom run.

Matte hides, glossy reveals

Printed objects are built in layers, and those layers catch light. A glossy finish creates a highlight along every layer, which reads as stripes. A matte finish diffuses it, so the surface looks closer to plaster or stone. If you want the piece to read as an object rather than as a print, matte is almost always the right call.

Mid-tones are the most forgiving

Very dark colours show every surface imperfection as a highlight. Very light colours show shadow in every groove. Mid-tones – sage, clay, warm grey, muted terracotta – hide the most and photograph the best. If it is a gift and you are unsure, a mid-tone is the safe answer.

Think about the wall behind it

This is the mistake we see most. A charcoal vase against a charcoal wall vanishes. A white piece against white disappears the same way. Pick a shade with contrast against whatever it will sit in front of, not one that matches it. A piece is an object, not camouflage.

Screens lie, a little

Every monitor renders colour differently, and product photography is lit for clarity rather than accuracy. Our photographs are of real objects, not renders, which helps – but if a precise match matters, message us and we will photograph the actual filament in daylight before you commit. That takes us five minutes and saves a return.

Matching an existing piece

Send a photo taken in daylight, not under a warm bulb, ideally with something white in frame for reference. We will tell you which filament comes closest and, more usefully, whether it is close enough to look intentional. Sometimes the honest answer is that a deliberately different colour will look better than a near-miss.

Sets and consistency

If you want several pieces to match, order them together. Printed in one run from the same spool, they will be identical. Ordered months apart, they may be a shade off. This is the one genuine advantage of buying a set at once. Browse the household and vases ranges, then tell us the colour.
